Digital roadmap for SMEs in Mediterranean region

Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) are at the heart of Euro-Mediterranean economies. Nevertheless, they tend to be less productive and innovative than larger companies, causing economic losses for the region. Therefore, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) considers that thriving digitalisation in the MSMEs is a key element for the productivity growth, increased competition, and the generation of the long-term profits in the region. Main shortages identified in the region as barriers in their digital transformation are the lack of the coherent and clear digitalisation strategies, local and regional lack of budgets and capacities to intensify digitalisation efforts, weak infrastructure and use of digital innovation, brain drain and low quality of digital education.

Within this broader framework, Aksantys was involved in assistance activities aimed to provide the support for the SMEs in their digitalisation efforts. The main focus was on the companies’ identification of business processes, the usage of computer technologies, examination of processes related to the investments in digital skills of employees, marketing, and logistics. The project led to the creation of the roadmap aligned with the SME’s demand in the above-mentioned categories.
